Debuts April 20th

Green Day

Green Day’s American Idiot will make its Broadway debut on April 20th. OMG! It just seems like 20 years ago that Green Day released their first album, 39/Smooth, on cassette. Wow! If anyone has pictures of that cassette please post an image link in the comments.

Jesse Malin doing Salinger Documentary OST

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Paste had it first. Jesse Malin was approached by writer/director Shane Salerno to do music for this J.D. Salinger documentary.

But who are Malin and Salerno???

I’ll let this image of Rottentomatoes.com speak for Salerno:

But don’t start weeping yet. The film has apparently been in production of some sort for about five years! I’m really excited about it, all RT criticism of Salerno aside.

If you don’t know who Malin is, um, listen to him. But not here because I don’t have a mix. So there.

RxRy ≠ ⅓ Animal Collective

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Vowel-hater mystery dude RxRy is not a member of Animal Collective. But that’s okay, because I still think this is pretty awesome. This is like at-your-house-doing-dishes-or-something music. Do I like it? Yes.

RxRy on MySpace

Now get yourself a real goddamned homepage and get off MySpace, Mister!

He’ll apparently be at SXSW on March 18 so yeah.

WROTE A BOOK!

The Osbournes

Ozzy:

“Other people’s memories of the stuff in this book might not be the same as mine. I ain’t gonna argue with ‘em. Over the past forty years, I’ve been loaded on booze, coke, acid, Quaaludes, glue, cough mixture, heroin, Rohypnol, Klonopin, Vicodin, and too many other heavy-duty substances to list in this footnote. On more than a few occasions I was on all of those at the same time. I’m not the fucking Encyclopedia Britannica, put it that way. When you read here is what dribbled out of the jelly I call my brain when I asked it for my life story. Nothing more, nothing less…”

— Ozzy Osbourne, from his new autobiography I Am Ozzy, co-written with Chris Ayres.

Bob Boilen Loves Everyone, Including Joanna Newsom

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Some make music because they want to, but Joanna Newsom makes music because she has to — at least that’s my guess. —Bob Boilen

Oh Bob Boilen, who don’t you love?

Listen to Joanna Newsom’s really long new album via NPR.

Lou Reed Hates MP3s

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Stares into soul, soul stares back

Lou Reed hates MP3s! What a hater! (Just joking.) Reed was gently interviewed a few days ago on CBC Radio’s Q with Jian Chomeshi (whatever that is) and you can listen to the podcast online.

A few small quotes about cameras:

  • “I really love looking through the viewfinder. Things look better through the camera.”
  • “It’s like having a private screening in a movie theater.”
  • “Crisper, cleaner, move things around… It looks better through it.”
  • “I don’t read and write anymore, and I can’t read a camera manual.”

I know what you mean about that private screening, Lou Reed. Personally, I can’t move things around when I look at them. :(

Also Lou Reed, you are only 67 years old! Why can’t you read? I am saddened. Maybe he just refuses to?

Neko Case and the Fantabulous Unicorn of Sugar Town Candy T-Pain (and DOOM)

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Cheyenne Cinnamon and the Fantabulous Unicorn of Sugar Town Candy Fudge is a new show on Adult Swim with Neko Case featuring T-Pain and DOOM. Watch the pilot here on some Adult Swim Burger King tie-in site. Adult Swim should know that BK is like the worst fast food.

It is time to ask a question of ourselves: Could three-dee have advanced enough to make cartoons good with?
